Do you take large production runs for businesses, not just one-off pieces?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and that is the work we most want. With twenty machines running in parallel we produce batches of the same custom part in quantity — jigs, fixtures, housings, brackets, replacement parts no longer manufactured, and components a business cannot buy off the shelf. Injection moulding needs a tool costing thousands and weeks of waiting before the first part exists. We can be printing your part this week, change the design next week, and change it again the week after without a new tool. Call and describe the part and the quantity.

What does 3D printing cost?

Accepted Answer

It depends on size, material and quantity, so we quote per job rather than publish a rate that would be wrong for most people. A small prototype is inexpensive. A large heat-resistant part is not. Quantity brings the unit price down considerably. Send a drawing, a photograph or a sample and we will give you a figure before any work starts.

How big a part can you print?

Up to about 25 to 30 inches. We have twenty machines, so larger objects can also be printed in sections and assembled, and multiple copies can run at the same time rather than one after another.

Question 4

We are a reseller. Can we buy without New York sales tax?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you are buying to resell, you present a New York resale certificate — Form ST-120 — and we do not charge sales tax on the order. There is a box to tick at checkout for this. Professional services such as consulting and design time are treated separately from goods. If you are not sure which applies to your order, call before you place it and we will sort it out.

I have a broken part and no drawing of it. Can you copy it?

Usually, yes. We scan the existing part with precision equipment, rebuild it as a printable model, and can improve it at the same time — thicken the section that keeps breaking, change the material, adjust a dimension. This is one of the most common jobs we do, particularly for parts that are no longer manufactured.

What file do I need to send you?

Accepted Answer

An STL or STEP file is ideal. But a sketch on paper, a photograph with a ruler beside it, or the broken part itself is perfectly acceptable — we do the modelling. Do not let the lack of a CAD file stop you calling.

How long does it take?

Accepted Answer

A simple prototype is often a matter of days. A production batch depends on quantity and size. Because there is no tooling to make first, 3D printing is almost always faster than traditional manufacturing for the first article — that is the main reason inventors and engineers use it.

Question 8

What materials can you print, and will the part survive heat?

Accepted Answer

We print a range of filaments including heat-resistant materials suitable for automotive use, where an ordinary printed part would soften. Tell us where the part will live — under a bonnet, outdoors in sunlight, in a dishwasher, in contact with oil — and we will recommend the right material rather than the cheapest one.

Do you print cosplay costumes and props?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Accurate, detailed pieces for cosplayers, printed in sections where needed and finished properly — sanded, smoothed and ready for you to paint. Bring a reference image and your measurements.

Do you print car parts?

Accepted Answer

Yes — custom and replacement parts, using heat-resistant filaments chosen for automotive conditions. Trim pieces, brackets, housings, ducting, and parts for older vehicles where the original is no longer available.

Do you teach 3D printing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Hands-on training classes in 3D design and printing where you print your own designs during the class rather than watching somebody else do it. Suitable for complete beginners, and for businesses wanting somebody in-house who understands the process.

Do you sell and repair 3D printers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Brand-new 3D printers, spare parts, and fast professional repair. If your own machine has stopped working, it is often cheaper to have it repaired than replaced, and we will tell you honestly which of the two your machine needs.

Where are you and who do you serve?

Accepted Answer

We are at 347 East Main Street, Middletown, New York 10940, open Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. We serve Middletown and the surrounding Orange County area in person, and work with customers further afield by post — files come in electronically and finished parts ship out.

I have an idea but no engineering background. Is that a problem?

Accepted Answer

Not at all — that describes most of the people who walk in. Bring the idea in whatever form it exists: a sketch, a description, something you have cobbled together from cardboard. We take it from concept to a physical object you can hold, show people, and test. Then we change it and print it again.
